Holiday Teasers

Good day my fellow friends!

How are you doing today?  Have you been tempted by any Christmas/holiday treats this week?  I know all of my American friends and family are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend!  And I am going to celebrate too!  I am hosting a Thanksgiving feast this weekend in honour of missing my Canadian turkey day this  year.

I am so pumped to eat turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and of course, my favourite...pumpkin pie!!  Are you all drooling yet?  I definitely am.

This time of the year and potentially be deadly for our waistlines.  I am in the marketing/advertising industry so I have been in holiday mode for the last month and a bit already.  You can't walk by a store, turn on the television and/or radio without being glorified by holiday treats!  Oh the baked goods!

I really want everyone to enjoy this time, so here are a few ways to enjoy your festive treats over the next couple of weeks without having to go up a pant size.

  1. Keep drinking water - when you feel the need to grab a tasty treat, have a large glass of water first.  This will fill your tummy so that you only eat one or two treats instead of seven
  2. Eat all the fixings, but eat some salad or veggies first, remember these edible greens get your tummy working sooner which will make you feel full faster
  3. Do not inhale your meals! Eat slower, talk with friends or family, if you are on your own one night read a book or magazine while you eat.  This way you won't have seconds and thirds
  4. This might be tricky at family functions, but try to eat your big meal earlier rather than later.  Plan to have your family over at 4pm, eat around 5pm so that your body has time to digest while you clean up and burn calories
  5. Keep moving! If you know you are going to consume a big meal, make sure you go for a walk, run, hike, bike ride or something that day and maybe go the day after too
I could keep going with more tips, but it's the holidays! Eat, drink and be merry! Just try not to go overboard and if you do, that's okay! We can work it off on the days to follow.

Enjoy!
